To celebrate the 11/11 Chinese Singles’ Day, Kinmen has launched a mobile APP, with which customers can check in and earn shopping discounts and chances to win prizes. The experience event of “Shopping Together at Kinmen Intelligent Shopping District / 1111 Kinmen Shopping Festival”, jointly organized by the Kinmen County Industrial Development and Investment Promotion Committee and Institute for Information Industry of Ministry of Economic Affairs, started yesterday. Starting from today until November 18th, customers can download the “Kinmen Shopping Festival” APP and check in with the APP to earn points. The points can be exchanged for shopping discounts or other gifts provided by shops. Customers can also use the points to enter a lucky draw organized by Kinmen County Government. The prizes include flight tickets, TV, tablets and many others.

Spanning a week, the Kinmen Shopping Festival had its opening ceremony at Kinmen Military Headquarters of Qing Dynasty at 10:00 AM yesterday. The ceremony was joined by Deputy Magistrate Wu Cherng-Dean, Institute for Information Industry Division Chief Syu Yu-Sheng, Kinmen County Economic Affairs Department Director General Li Bin, Jincheng Township Mayor Shih Jhao-Min, Kinmen Airport Director Hong Nien-Chi, Shamei District Association Chairman Wang Tian-Cyuan, Houpu District Association Chairman Wu Bo-Yang, The Association of Taiwan Tour Souvenir representative Syu Da-Chuan, Kinmen Industrial Association representative Hong Cing-Fen, salespeople from the Ever Rich Duty Free Shop, vendors from other shopping districts, and many specialty sellers.

When addressing to the crowd, Wu Cherng-Dean said that building Kinmen into a smart city is the mission the Magistrate has delegated to him. He believed that Kinmen has a good foundation to make the island more convenient and smarter. Wu Cherng-Dean further announced an exhilarating news that Kinmen stood out from more than 400 cities worldwide and was named one of the Smart21 Communities of 2018. In the future, the County Government will continue to secure more resources and build Kinmen into an example of a smart city.

Institute for Information Industry Division Chief Syu Yu-Sheng suggested that intelligent applications can’t be achieved in one day, and Kinmen cannot become a different city in one day, either. The goal to become a smart city should be achieved through day to day technology developments and experiences. The Institute for Information Industry has allocated a budget for Kinmen. It has set up more than 200 Bluetooth Beacon transmitters throughout Kinmen Island. With the APP downloaded, customers who pass by shops or tourist attractions will receive push notifications. Customers can receive scratch tickets by earning points, and can enter a lucky draw with 20 points. Syu Yu-Sheng explained that nowadays buying necessities is not the sole purpose of shopping. Shopping should become a fun experience. Technology and intelligent applications have formed the new trend of shopping. The County Government and Institute for Information Industry has worked together to make Kinmen a shining smart city.

Kinmen County Industrial Development and Investment Promotion Committee Chief of Staff Wang Jhong-Sheng said that this event originated from the Intelligent Business Application Meeting at the end of last year. At that time local vendors and sellers from various shopping districts participated in the event actively, which made it possible to secure more funds from the central government and to promote this intelligent shopping demonstration district this year. The cost of Bluetooth devices, the setup cost, and the cost to promote the experience event were all paid by the Institute for Information Industry. They hoped that the intelligent applications can bring more customers to shopping districts and specialty shops. In addition, to encourage travelers and locals to participate in the festival, a lucky draw for people who check in was held by the organizers. When people check in while shopping in Houpu Shopping District, Jinhu Shopping District, and Jinsha Shopping District, they can accumulate points. When they have 20 points, they can collect a lucky draw ticket at the information desk at Houpu 16 Art and Cultural District in Jincheng Township and participate in the lucky draw.
