The 14th President of the R.O.C. Tsai Ing-wen assumed office yesterday to become the first female president of the R.O.C. Kinmen County Magistrate Chen Fu-Hai was invited to attend the presidential inauguration and congratulated the new President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Chen Chien-jen, believing the new government will give Kinmen even more space and policies. After attending the presidential inauguration, Magistrate Chen visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital to comfort the family of hospitalized Kinmenese people, and wished them an early recovery! Magistrate Chen also met with Superintendent Chang Te-Ming and Vice Superintendent Huang Hsin-Chang of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, hoping the Ministry of Health and Welfare will upgrade Kinmen Hospital into a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital as soon as possible, which was proposed President Tsai before the election, as it will fundamentally resolve Kinmen’s issue with medical care and care for the health and well-being of Kinmen residents.
Before the election this year, Tsai Ing-wen, Chairperson of the DPP and presidential candidate, led her campaign team to Kinmen for canvassing, and they also held a rally. Magistrate Chen personally met with Tsai Ing-wen and discussed fundamentally resolving Kinmen’s issue with medical care. Besides improving medical quality and reducing aeromedical transport, Magistrate Chen suggested upgrading Kinmen Hospital into a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and believes that it is the best strategy for solving Kinmen insufficient medical care.
When Vice President Chen Chien-jen visited Kinmen Hospital before the election, he indicated that he will actively assist in this proposal if Tsai Ing-wen is elected! Director Chen Tien-Shun of Kinmen Health Bureau said: “Since Chen Chien-jen is the former director general of the Department of Health, I believe he will assist and actively support Kinmen Hospital in becoming a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital!”
Improving medical care in Kinmen is one of the county government’s focuses. When Magistrate Chen visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital in early January this year, he stressed to Superintendent Chang Te-Ming and Vice Superintendent Huang Hsin-Chang that Kinmen Hospital must become a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital if it intends to become a good hospital with a brand, and said that the time has matured.
Hence, after attending President Tsai Ing-wen’s inauguration in Taipei yesterday, Magistrate went to Taipei Veterans General Hospital, not only to visit hospitalized Kinmen residents and show concern for their health, but more importantly to learn the timetable and status of upgrading Kinmen Hospital into a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital. When discussing matters with Superintendent Chang Te-Ming and Vice Superintendent Huang Hsin-Chang, Magistrate Chen expressed his hopes they will suggest to President Tsai to upgrade Kinmen Hospital into a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, so as to fundamentally resolve the issue of Kinmen’s medical care, allowing Kinmen residents to no longer need to travel and take a flight to Taiwan to seek medical care, which will complete the vision of turning Kinmen into an island of health, medical care and happiness.
The joint operation unveiling ceremony of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare, and Kinmen Hospital was held in mid-November last year, and Magistrate Chen hopes that joint operation will create a tacit understanding and opportunity for Kinmen Hospital to become a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital. With the current budget of the Ministry of Health and Welfare plus funds from Kinmen Medical Care Development Foundation, he was determined to make Taipei Veterans General Hospital happy to take on Kinmen Hospital, and develop Kinmen Hospital into a good brand hospital across the Taiwan Strait!
When visiting Taipei Veterans General Hospital to discuss medical care, Magistrate Chen once again showed gratitude for its long-term assistance to Kinmen’s medical care. Since Taipei Veterans General Hospital is the number one choice for quite a few Kinmen residents when they are transferred to a hospital in Taiwan, it has already gained the trust and reliance of many Kinmen people. Hence, he hoped that Kinmen Hospital can become a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital in the future; the two parties exchanged opinions and discussed issues with Kinmen’s medical care.
Furthermore, Taipei Veterans General Hospital began supporting Kinmen’s medical care since 2005. Half of the doctors in Kinmen at the time all flew in from Taiwan to take care of Kinmen residents. You can say that Taipei Veterans General Hospital has always played an important role in Kinmen’s medical care. The purpose of Taipei Veterans General Hospital is “view patients as family, pursue excellence,” a spirit that was brought to Kinmen in hopes of eventually achieving “zero patients transferred to Taiwan.” It also made turning Kinmen Hospital into a branch of Taipei Veterans General Hospital a common goal.
