A delegation of more than 20 members led by Professor Liao Chun-Hsiung, Chairman of the Department of Transportation and Communication Management Science, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), visited the Department of Tourism Management, National Quemoy University (NQU) to exchange ideas on Kinmen tourism development and transportation. Prof. Chen Jian-Ming, Vice President of NQU, welcomed the NCKU delegation. This visit aimed for opinion exchange, strengthening interactions between the two universities, and providing professional and academic suggestions on regional construction and development.

Prof. Chen introduced the history of NQU’s development and the current academic and administrative characteristics. He also pointed out that NCKU and NQU in fact had a close relationship. NQU has taken NCKU as the paradigm for its administrative development.

Professor Liao expressed his astonishment on the development of Kinmen in recent years. He was deeply impressed by various kinds of construction, welfare policies, and tourism activities in Kinmen.

The NCKU delegation included faculty members of the Department of Transportation and Communication Management Science who are specialized in transportation management, logistics management, intelligent transportation systems, and telecommunications management. In the following panel discussion, scholars of both universities discussed and exchanged their opinions on Kinmen tourism development and transportation development. Located at a critical position, Kinmen has been facing particular issues such as the complex transport systems for Mini Three Links, free trade zone development, and telecomm technology, and has been acting as a pioneer in terms of the cross-strait policies. These issues were all brought up and constructively discussed.

Currently, NQU sends elite students to NCKU for an exchange program in order for these students to broaden their view. Huang Jian-Tong, a student who was admitted to the NQU with full scores, will go to NCKU to receive more comprehensive training in his second phase of university life once he has accomplished two years of training at NQU. This is a good example of cooperation between these two schools.
