To provide more comfortable flight experience for passengers, Far Eastern Air Transport’s (FAT) newly-introduced ATR72-600 airliners today (Nov. 16th) officially start traveling between Taichung and Magong and between Taichung and Kinmen with two and three flights per day, respectively. FAT announced that to celebrate the maiden flight of the new fleet of planes, “Taking New Planes for Gifts” activities start from the date of the maiden flight and will last until the end of November, in which passengers will be offered a FAT 50%-off one-way domestic flight ticket coupon each with no destination limits.
FAT said that it owns a total of eight MD aircraft in its current fleet, with an average age of over 20 years. This year, two new ATR aircraft were introduced, which were 3 and 4 years old. However, after the fleet renewal program ran into one snag after another, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ (MOTC) Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) has finally approved FAT’s operation standards, permitting new ATR72-600 operations and issuing an ATR air route certificate.
FAT’s first ATR begins to operate from Taichung to outlying islands of Magong and Kinmen today (Nov. 16th), FAT announced, adding that as the ATR has 72 seats, fewer than MD aircraft seats by more than half, the airline has increased its flight frequency between Taichung and Kinmen from one or two flights to three flights per week, while the number of flights between Taichung and Magong has increased from one to two every week.
According to the ticket prices published on FAT’s official website, the one-way adult ticket for flights from Taichung to Kinmen costs NT$1,748, and the one-way ticket for passengers with registered residence in Kinmen costs NT$1,224, while the ticket from Taichung to Magong is priced at NT$1,431. As ATR aircraft costs more than MD, FAT has applied to the CAA for raising fares, the airline said, adding that the CAA has completed the review and sent its application to the MOTC, and the air fares remain unchanged until the MOTC gives its approval.
In addition, FAT announced that every passenger taking the Taichung-Magong or Taichung-Kinmen maiden flight on November 16th will be given a FAT 50%-off one-way domestic flight ticket coupon each with no destination limits. Moreover, the first 30 passengers that have completed check-in for each flight every day from November 17th through 30th will also receive the same coupon each with no destination limits.
According to FAT’s previous plan, two ATR72-600 aircraft are also scheduled to be introduced and put into operation on outlying island routes in the first half of next year. A320 and A321 aircraft are planned to be introduced in the first quarter of 2019 to gradually replace the current MD82/83 aircraft and travel on cross-strait and international routes, with the aim of providing passengers with more comfortable flight experience.
Furthermore, FAT’s official website offers a 31% discount on tickets; the fare from Taichung to Magong is NT$987 and up, and from Taichung to Kinmen is NT$1,206 and up until December 18th.
