2017 Kinmen Elementary to High School Students Piano Contest is held at the auditorium of Cultural Affairs Bureau today. There will be 66 contestants ranging from elementary school students to senior high school students. Department of Education stated that to promote music education and cultivate regional musical artists, the public is welcomed to listen to the performance and give applause to the young musicians. Please arrive to the venue 10 minutes prior to the contest. Children under 7 years old are not allowed to enter the auditorium in order to keep the contest going on smoothly. The award presentation will be held at 5:00 P.M.

Department of Education pointed out that, under many years’ hard work and music education promotion by the County Government and schools, Kinmen students have shown their great talents in several national musical contests. To cultivate regional music talents, promote music education, and encourage every student who learns to play the piano to take up challenges, Department of Education holds the 2017 Kinmen Elementary to High School Students Piano Contest. Various schools also co-hosted the event. This contest will be taken place from 8:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M in the auditorium of Cultural Affairs Bureau. Sixty-six students have enrolled for the competition—12 from junior grades of elementary schools (1st and 2nd grade), 18 from middle grades of elementary schools (3rd and 4th grade), 18 from senior grades of elementary schools (5th and 6th grade), 14 from junior high schools, and 4 from senior high schools. The challengers are not only to improve their playing skills but also to compete for the participation rights of national student music competition for piano solo section.

Department of Education explained the rules of the competition. The competition is divided into five age categories, and every contestant is required to play two piano pieces (Compulsory Pieces and Free Selection) to demonstrate their skills and musicality. To encourage the young pianists who are willing to take on challenges and advance their playing skills, there will be three winning prizes and several prizes for superior players for both elementary school and junior high school categories; and one prize for the senior high school category. One third of the participants will be given a prize. The winner (first place) of three age categories (namely, the senior levels of elementary schools, junior and senior high schools) will be recommended for the national student music competition for piano solo section. The result of the contest will be announced on the same day and the award presentation will be held at 5:00 P.M. The public is welcomed to attend the performance and to give encouragement and applause to our young pianists.
